Come and build rocket fast drones
We build high-speed autonomous aircraft that take off vertically, fly a mission at speed, and land softly on the spot they were asked to. They work. We fly them most weeks.
What we do not have is enough people. The one we need most right now is the engineer who draws the aircraft, because every part of every one of them has so far been drawn by the founder. Every role here is budgeted and every listing publishes its salary band.
▸ 01 / What we do
Aircraft that are actually fast
Rocket Fast Drones designs, builds and flies uncrewed aircraft in Brisbane. No runway, no launcher, no assembly on site, and no recovery crew walking into a paddock to collect it. It goes straight up, tips over onto a wing, gets there, and comes back.
The mission we lead with is medical logistics: blood, plasma and pharmaceuticals delivered inside the window where speed still changes the outcome. Road transport takes as long as the road takes. Around that sit survey and inspection, emergency response, mining, and allied defence.
We are a small team with deep engineering behind it. The founder spent two decades in aerospace before this, from the US Air Force Research Laboratory through hypersonics to launching rockets in Australia.
- Demonstrated top speed
- 176km/h in flight. Among the fastest reusable electric VTOL aircraft in the 1 to 10 kg class.
- Demonstrated cruise
- 143km/h, sustained, carrying a payload.
- Longest flight
- 12.2km, and it landed with 40% of the battery still in it.
- Autonomous missions
- 15across four days. 12 of them completely hands off, zero intervention.
▸ Every figure above is a demonstrated flight result, not a target. We hold ourselves to that in sales conversations too.
▸ 02 / Working here
What you would actually get
A short line to the decision
You would report to the founder. Design direction, pricing, terms: one conversation, not one quarter. If what you learn contradicts the plan, the plan can change that week.
Paid properly, in the open
The band is on the listing, along with why it is a wide one. We are not going to make you guess or negotiate blind. Where a role carries commission it is paid on cash collected rather than contracts signed, because a signed contract that has not paid does not help either of us.
Work that is genuinely interesting
Autonomous aircraft, medical logistics, airspace regulation, defence, additive manufacturing. You would learn a sector rather than a product, and you would be in a workshop with the aircraft in it.
Honesty as a working method
Every performance number we publish is a demonstrated one. We label targets as targets and simulations as simulations. It constrains what you can say in a sales conversation, and it is also why people believe us.
A small company, with what that means
No marketing team generating your leads. No sales engineer, no drawing office and no PLM system. Some weeks you are helping carry gear at a flight test. The infrastructure you are used to may not exist yet, and you might have to build it.
On site, in West End
On the river, a few minutes from the city. These are not remote roles. The aircraft, the printers and the people are all here, and most of these jobs touch all three.

▸ 03 / What is open
5 roles, and a standing invitation
The pay is published on every listing. What is behind the gate is which roles they are and what the work actually involves, because we would like to know who is looking, including the people who read a role and decide against it.
▸ 04 / How this works
Three steps, no recruiters
1. Tell us who you are
Name, email, what you do now. You are through immediately, no approval queue. We ask because we would like to know who is looking, including the people who read the role and decide it is not for them. That is useful information.
2. Read the listing properly
It is long, it says what we measure, what we pay, and what is genuinely hard about the job. We would rather you self-selected out than discovered it in month two.
3. Apply, with your CV
A short form, three real questions and a PDF. It goes straight to the founder, who reads them herself. No applicant tracking system, no keyword filter, and nobody between you and the decision.
Then we talk
If it looks like a fit you will hear back. Expect a reply either way rather than silence, though it may take a few days.
Already filled: Mechatronics Engineer, Test and Operations Support, Executive Officer. We leave those up rather than deleting them, because they show what the company is made of and because every job reopens eventually. If one of them is the job you want, tell us now and you get a call rather than an advertisement when it does.
One thing to check before you start
Every role here needs you to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. A valid work visa is not enough. We work in Australian defence industry under the Defence Trade Controls Act 2012 and the Defence Industry Security Program, and those rules decide who is allowed to work on this material.
We put it here, on the way in, rather than at the end of an application. It is a legal condition on us and not a view about people, and it is the only status question we ask. If you are offered a role we will ask for proof of it, and for a national police check, which we pay for.
